Parametric analysis and field validations of oxidative ageing in asphalt pavements using multiphysics modelling approaches

Oxidative ageing in field asphalt pavements is a complex process with coupled multiple physics. This parametric study uses Multiphysics modelling approaches to evaluate the effects of material thermal properties, air voids content and distribution, mastic coating thickness, oxygen accessibility binder oxidative kinetics on spatial temporal evolution pavements. Results suggest that increasing conductivity layers leads lower gradient. The variations base subgrade layers’ properties cause little no ageing. A high activation energy (e.g. by adding anti-ageing additives) reduces significantly. Asphalt built unbound granular will experience greater overall C-shaped gradient compared treated base. Air <5% yields limited Five nine percent generate gradually increased an obvious across pavement depth. beyond 9% consistently due full access oxygen. Finally, findings were validated using available literature results data from 14 European road sections.
